I did this illustration about Baratos Afins, a record store in São Paulo, for Zeit Magazin Travel Edition. They asked me about my dream location for traveling, and I thought right away about my last visit at this beloved Record Store that is active since the 1970s.

Here is part of the text I wrote, that was published together with the magazin:

Every visit feels like a reunion with a friend who knows me too well. Seu Luiz always seems to guess exactly what I need. That rare pressing, that forgotten artist, that one song that will stay with me all week. They never rush me. They let me linger, flip through your crates, lose track of time. Last time I was there, Seu Luiz explained to me all the thought process behind the covers he produced for his record label. Then we went on to talk about politics and movies, together with Victoria and Carolina, I was there for 2 hours.
And when I finally step back out into the Galeria do Rock, São Paulo feels different, brighter, louder, more alive. I am thankful for Baratos Afins, for being more than a store. For being a refuge. For keeping the needle on the record and the music playing, even when the world outside forgets how to listen.
It’s an old soul, but it never seems to grow old.
