My name is Thaís Curvelo, I am an illustrator and visual artist from São Paulo, Brazil.

My work is emotionally inked, and boldly textured, as I like to use colors and shapes in a playful and provocative way.
 
My characters are floating in a realm between reality and dreamland. My designs are well suited for color separated printing techniques such as Risoprint, Silkscreen and Woodcut.

All the products here are printed at my homestudio by me. 
They come signed and with a certificate of originality.
By purchasing my prints, you are helping me keep experimenting and evolving, so I am truly greatful for that. <3

The Gliceé Prints are made with an inkjet printer, the colors are very intense and the texture is matt. 
The screenprint is also done in my home studio and it is in experimentation phase, so expect imperfections :) 

Please choose the right shipping method for your region,
international shipping can take weeks, please be patient.

I took out the option for shiping in postcard size because there
was a lot of confusion on pricing.  If you just want a postcard
version from my work, please send me a request via email,
the price will be then between 0,70 cents and 2 euros for shipping.

A LETTER GLORIA ANZALDÚA

In the winter of 2020, I took part in the seminar
“Seeing ourselves clearly” organized and lectured by Pary El-Qalqili, where we read texts
from Gloria Anzaldúa, Bell Hooks, Audrey Lorde,
and Frantz Fanon while analyzing movies such as “BLACK GIRL” from Ousmane Sembene and
“Bush Mama” (1979) from Haile Gerima. After the discussions in class, I wrote and illustrated this publication where I appropriated Gloria’s style answering her text “Speaking In Tongues: A Letter To 3rd World Women Writers”.
The letter was published in the Blog “Critical
Diversity” of the Berlin University of the Arts.
(The idea was to publish it with grammatical
errors).

The Ring Returns

Brünnhilde emerges from the crowd. She takes the ring and brings it back to the Rheindaughters. Hagen throws himself into the water to get the ring as the waterwomen drag him down to the bottom with them.
At the edge of the river, Brünnhilde has a pyre built for her beloved Siegfried. She sets the pile of wood on fire and that is the initial spark for the Valhalla fire. She then rides with her horse Grane into the flames.
Through self-sacrifice, love, guilt and suffering, she has matured to become a fully conscious human being. Her example is aimed at the remaining Gibichschung people to resist the previous gods and power relations.

Now the coloring calendar comes in printed version with a super paper, ready for painting with mixed media.

This is a paper called Dorée, with machine-smoothed surface, perfect for markers, poscas, coloring pencils, permanent markers and all dry media. The producer says is good for watercolors and gouache too, but I think it’s too thin for that.
The thickness is 120 g/m² and the color isnatural

white.

In celebration of Mother’s Day, I present to you: The Curvelos! (A tiny tiny portion of them).

Growing up, I had the luck to have my aunties and grandma living very close.
They were not just blood related, they actively helped my mother raise me.
They taught me how to work for my things, how to be strong, how to try to be the best human possible. The lessons are endless.
Every morning when my tia Norma is going to work, my grandma looks at her in the eyes, puts her finger up and says it firmly: Faith, Courage and Patience!
I worked on this one whole day, to make it in time as a present for my family.

The T-shirt fundraiser "MIGRATION IS NOT A CRIME!" was developed by Solidbase Berlin, a NGO that supports people living under refugee status in Germany.
100% of the sales proceeds went towards solidarity rents for refugees who, due to multiple discrimination, care work, chronic illness, trauma or other structural disadvantages, are unable to continue living in the camp.
The T-shirts were available at: www.no-borders.net (SOLD OUT).

Dog With Rose

Done during an assignment at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York in 2022.
The idea was to create a personal card. 
This dog is inspired by the artwork of tattoo artists such as Horiyoshi III and Bob Roberts.



Dogs in Mythology

Bachelor Work for Berlin University of the Arts










The stories presented here were found written on walls, ancient texts, transcriptions of cultural gatherings, and documentation of folk tales.
The dogs selected represent only a portion of the many stories of dogs in mythology.
I worked as an internet archive scavenger to find these treasure stories. The oldest story found is around 5,000 years old.

To share this, I created a colorful booklet with 13 of them. It was printed in 3 colors in risograph.
I also did a print for each dog, that can be purchased separately from the booklet, in case your house is too full for all the 13 dogs.
These prints are also limited edition and there is no plan for a new reprint.
